The top 10 games I played in 2009

  • #10 -  Killzone 2 (Playstation 3)

http://www.ugo.com/images/galleries/killzone2_games/killzone2_1.jpg

Killzone 2 was probably one of the greatest looking games of its time. It had some of the best graphics in any game period, whether it was PC or Console, it had an action packed but unique feel to its first person controllers, the action was more calculated than run and gunning. It was also followed up by an amazing multiplayer on the Playstation 3 at that time. It had a great leveling system that made it possible to achieve cool new classes, in which you could go invisible, drop turrets, let out air drones and much much more. This consumed a good portion of my spring.

  • #9 – Shadow Complex (Xbox Live Arcade)

http://blerk.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/shadow-complex-071409-580px.jpg?w=400&h=221

Shadow Complex was one of the many downloadable games I purchased this year, a huge increase over last years downloadable titles. The Quality of XBLA games has increased to the point of full on production games for 1/6 the cost. Shadow Complex which was created by Epic(Gears of War team) was one of the most intriguing fun side scrolling campaigns I have ever played, in my opinion even more exciting then its Metroid counterpart where it was heavily influenced by. The game may of not been the longest, but 10 bucks for 8-9 hours of this high a caliber game, is an amazing deal no matter how you look at it.

  • #8 – Metal Gear Solid 4

http://cache.kotaku.com/images/2006/07/METAL%20GEAR%20SOLID%204.jpg

Metal Gear Solid 4 was actually the first Playstation 3 game I purchased when I received my PS3, it was the must play game of that year, and my first foray into a Metal Gear Solid game, besides watching my cousin play metal gear on the playstation when I was much younger. The story of this game was probably one of the most epic(and longest) stories I have ever experienced in a video game. The gameplay was fun and fresh from what I was use to, and the ability to shoot your way thru or stealth your way thru was a pleasant choice to have.  I have heard good things about the multiplayer as well, but I personally did not give it a chance.

  • #7 – Modern Warfare 2: Call of Duty

http://brutalgamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-2.jpg

There is not much that needs to be said about many peoples Game of the Year, this game had amazing single player action and probably one of the best multiplayer experiences of the entire year. If you haven’t played this game you are living in a bubble, or don’t own an Xbox, ps3 or a PC.

  • #6 – Plants Vs Zombies

http://gamingdead.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Plants_vs_Zombies_Steam_Sale.jpg

Plants vs. Zombies is a pop cap game, from the creators of Bejewelled and Peggle. Most people know I am a huge zombie fan, and since I got the iPhone I have become a huge tower defense fan. This game which is currently available on PC/MAC(iphone soon) I purchased on sale for 5 bucks through Steam. This game is amazing from the crafty animation and cool challenges, the ability to build a garden of zombie fighting plants never looses its cool and provides hours of fun and challenges. This game is cheap and runs on any machine, pick it up for your pc/Mac.

  • #5 – Dragon Age: Origins

http://www.infoaddict.com/wp-content/uploads/HLIC/news.filefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/dragon_age_origins-battle.jpg

Dragon Age: Origins on pure content alone provided me with over 70 hours of gameplay and I did not even play 5 of the 6 possible original character origins, view the many multiple endings, or made love to all the possible characters you could. This game is a throwback to the old school RPG Baldur’s Gate and was available on PC/Xbox/PS3 and was everything I wanted in a top down(3rd person) Rpg. It’s hack n slash, loot, character development was all top notch, the controls which were not perfect were the best I have ever seen for a game of this type. This game alone would last most players weeks to months, throw on cool free DLC and you got yourself a game to keep in rotation for quite sometime.

  • #4 – Batman: Arkham Asylum

http://www.frankengamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/batman-arkham-asylum.jpg

Batman is one of those characters that through out the test of time, has always had trouble translating into a great game. With Batman: Arkham Asylum this is where gamers dreams have finally been realized. This game deserves to be on #1, and maybe if I didn’t get my ps3 so late, it would of been for 2009. This game was just that good, exploration, combat, storyline, voice acting and visuals were the best on both Xbox 360,pc and Ps3. Batman or not, this game is just down right fantastic.

  • #3 -  Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

http://blog.gamer20.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/the-secret-of-monkey-island-special-edition-screenshot-590x382.jpg

Secret of Monkey Island is actually my favorite game of all time, it was released in 1990 and was really what got me into gaming on the hardcore level. This was my Catalyst for becoming a gamer. If you read my blog at all you would of seen many posts about this game, the collectibles in which I have got for it, and my overall love for this series. This game is not new, but they did redo all the graphics and added voice and allowed you to replay the game with this new updated HD version, which I loved ever so much. I bought it on iphone, pc and Xbox. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves great story, and humor. I would of put this as #1, but not being an original game, or no new game features, I decided to give space to two games that truly deserved to make the top 2.

  • #2 – Uncharted 2

http://ps3thevolution.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/uncharted-2-among-thieves-20090318093654704_640w.jpg

This is really the 2009 game of the year(since it came out in 2009). This game is the equivalent of the greatest blockbusters, best acting, most amazing game play both single player and multiplayer. Every aspect of this game is polished, perfected and greatly enjoyable to play. The main character is flawed by loveable, the storyline exciting but plausible. This is where gaming has reached perfection.

  • #1 – Valkryia Chronicles

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/valkyriachroniclesimage11603580.jpg

This one would be best detailed by my original review http://amightypirate.wordpress.com/2009/04/29/valkyria-chronicles-a-refreshing-masterpiece/ this game was by far one of the best games I have ever played in my life. Something about art, story, design and gameplay just spoke to everything I ever wanted in a game. Please read the full review and support this game.
