Weekend Media Update

So here is another update of all the media I consumed this weekend, and what I thought about it.

Star Trek

So I finally was able to see Star Trek the new movie by JJ Abrhams(LOST,Cloverfield). The wife had to study and did not seem very interested in seeing the movie, so I had to go by myself and sit in a theatre with the 55+ crowd, during a 4O’Clock weekend showing.

I have to admit now that I am a huge Star Trek fan(for the most part.) I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation as it aired and had books,posters and collectibles, I was a huge fan of all the original Star Trek movies I-VI, and watched the original show on re-runs occasionally with my grandpa. As I got older, I ended up watching Deep Space 9 on DVD after the show’s run was over, I to this day think it ended up being the best of the Star Trek series. I gave Voyager a try however lost interest, and never gave Enterprise a shot, because by that time I had moved on to more interesting science fiction.

So now you can see that I am a pretty big fan, however I am not a fanatic. It definitely has waned off the past decade my appreciation for the series.  However Star Trek the movie was everything that I wanted it to be and more than I could of ever hoped for. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I will refrain from in-depth details, but the Character development and choice of actors was nearly flawless, I had a few characters I had to get off previous show/movie persona’s to except but I think everyone exceeded my expectations as to there ability to fit into the Star Trek universe.

Ultimately the plot of this movie and the villains were unimportant, and strictly away to deliver on character development for the Star Trek cast. This movie must be followed up with a sequel to ultimately be successful in the long term. They build great characters and now it is time to use them again in a film where the plot can be more focused. I highly recommend this movie to ANYONE, Star Trek Fan or not.

Video Games

I also played Far Cry 2 for the playstation 3, I am about 25% through this African “Blood Diamond” style FPS, it is definitely a gorgeous game with some really cool aspects. I hope I can complete this game but with upcoming games like Infamous coming out, I am not sure I’ll be able to avoid distractions.

I also picked up Peggle for the I-phone, because you just can’t get enough Peggle.

I played the Plants vs Zombies demo on Steam, and will be picking that up next weekend for 9.99.

And to top that off I Purchased Strong Bad: Episode 1 on WiiWare and gave that a whirl.
